As an Island nation, we’ve always been very resourceful when it comes to the sea. One of our Irish artisan brands doing something interesting in this area is WASI (Wild Atlantic Seaweed Ireland). Based in Bantry Bay, WASI produce nourishing, delicious and versatile seaweed pestos. The producers ethically hand harvest the wild seaweed to create nutrient rich, and easy to eat products. A source of iodine, these superfood seaweed products bring your body the micro-nutrients of the sea.
The range has three different types to choose from: Their ‘ginger and sesame’ pesto has the most subtle flavour of them all, and actually inspired the creation of WASI. Initially made for their own use, but after regular requests from friends for a jar, WASI was created. The ‘garlic and lemon’ pesto is a hit with baked fish, works great on crackers and cheese, or simply mixed through pasta. The ‘chilli and lemongrass’ Asian influenced pesto gives a wonderful kick to any noodle dish, and also works well with cheese. It’s said to be the best choice to convert non-seaweed enthusiasts.
